About Vida Nueva
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT HAPPENS ON A WEEKEND? Vida Nueva begins Friday afternoon and ends the following Sunday evening.
The Vida Nueva team leading the weekend is composed of former attendees of Vida Nueva, Tres Dias, Cursillo, Chrysalis, Emmaus or similar weekends, who have volunteered their time for weeks of preparation by working and praying together.
A young person attending the weekend is sponsored by a member of the Vida Nueva Community. The attendees learn the basics of a Christian life and the meaning of living the Christian ideal in their daily lives through lay and clergy talks. These talks are then discussed by table groups. The basic atmosphere of Vida Nueva is one of love, Christian fellowship, singing, laughing and worship.
During the weekend, you can expect: - Group discussions of topics that are of vital interest to the Body of Christ. - Times of prayer, sharing and fellowship. - Lots of music and singing. - Lots of food! - Lots of fun and surprises! - Most importantly, you can expect that God will meet you exactly where you are.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND A WEEKEND? Young men and women from age 15 to 20 years are encouraged to attend. There are separate weekends for young men and women. Generally, the weekends are designed for young women to go through their weekend first, and then a week or two later the young men go through. Each attendee must be sponsored by someone who has previously attended a Vida Nueva, Tres Dias, Cursillo, Chrysalis, Emmaus or similar weekend.
I WANT TO ATTEND A VIDA NUEVA WEEKEND. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO? ANYONE WHO WISHES TO ATTEND A WEEKEND MUST BE SPONSORED BY SOMEONE WHO HAS PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED A WEEKEND. The sponsor carries significant responsibility to assure that the attendee is taken care of, so they can focus on the activities of the weekend and not worry about what’s happening in the outside world.
Seek a sponsor and ask him/her to get you an application to fill out. Once the application is completed, return it to your sponsor and they will do the rest. Or, if your sponsor has completed their portion of the application, you can mail the form to the Pre-Weekend Couple. That address is listed on the top of the application.
Once accepted on a weekend, you will be provided a list of recommended items to bring (such as blankets, pajamas, etc). Other than that, your sponsor will take care of all other details. Your sponsor will even take you to a send-off point or to the weekend site.
HOW DO YOU SPONSOR AN ATTENDEE FOR THE WEEKEND? If you have attended a Vida Nueva, Tres Dias, Cursillo, Chrysalis, Emmaus or similar weekend, you can sponsor someone. Weekend applications are available on our web site by clicking here. Applications are also be available at the Tres Dias Secuelas and Vida Nueva Gatherings. Please be in prayer as to whom you might sponsor.
WHAT IF AN ATTENDEE HAS SPECIAL NEEDS, SUCH AS DIET OR MEDICATION? The attendee’s sponsor should know of these needs in advance. Any special diet can be accommodated. If medication is needed during the night or at special times, members of the team will see that every need is met. Any medical needs should be communicated both on the application and to the proper team members on the weekend.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER VIDA NUEVA? One’s life after Vida Nueva is called the Fourth Day. Following Vida Nueva, a young person is encouraged to expand his/her own spiritual life and become a more active disciple of Jesus Christ in the world, in the church and in their school. Continued association with Christians is important and is provided through regular contact with the Vida Nueva community. Reunions of smaller groups within churches and schools are encouraged so the participants can help one another in living the Christian life.
WHY IS VIDA NUEVA SO SPECIAL? There are two things that make every weekend special!
The first, and most important, is prayer. Once a young person completes a weekend, they become part of the “Vida Nueva Community.” The community plans future weekend schedules and has the responsibility to hold each weekend up in prayer. These weekends are literally “bathed” in prayer, love, and support.
The second is the support of the larger Vida Nueva and Tres Dias Community. Very often, people are touched by God’s
love in a powerful way on their weekend, and desire to share that experience with others. The community of believers supports the weekends with their prayers and physical labor. Christians work behind the scenes of every weekend to make certain the needs are met of all who attend.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED? By serving on a Vida Nueva weekend. Anyone who has been to a Vida Nueva, Tres Dias, Cursillo, Chrysalis, Emmaus or similar weekend is eligible to serve on Vida Nueva Weekends. Service is important to Christian growth. Click
here to see our Weekends page for more information.
IS THERE TRAINING PROVIDED FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO SERVE? Training meetings are held for all who are interested in serving on a weekend. Vida Nueva training is required to serve on the weekend team. Team members must have attended a Vida Nueva or parallel experience. Click
here to see our Weekends page for more information.
CAN I BE INVOLVED WITHOUT SERVING ON A WEEKEND? Service is where the greatest growth comes, but there are opportunities for you to be involved without serving on a weekend. - You can pray for the weekend, the team and the attendees. - You can sponsor a teen to attend. - You can provide financial scholarships for young men and women. - Each young adult is given a Bible during the weekend. You can Sponsor the cost of a weekend and/or the Bible.
WHAT VIDA NUEVA IS NOT! Vida Nueva is a “once in a lifetime” experience. Once a person has attended their weekend, they are not permitted to attend again, unless they do so as a team member. Following the weekend, those who attend are strongly encouraged to participate in small “share groups.” - It is NOT intended to become an alternative to your home church or practice of worship. - It is not a denomination, nor is it designed to become a focal point of worship, other than during the particular weekend.
Essentially, Vida Nueva is the expression of unmerited Christian love exhibited by the Father through His people! It is the desire of the Vida Nueva Community that all will return to their home churches with the empowerment of a revitalized relationship with Jesus Christ through His Holy Spirit!
